Irrigation in the Pacific Northwest

Simple Irrigation Schedule for an Average Year

This treats the irrigation system and entire field as a whole and is not related to individual irrigation sets. Use this as a guide as to whether, when, and for how long you might be able to shut down to save labor, water, and energy. It uses 30-year historical weather at each location and 4 stage (FAO 56 style) crop coefficients to estimate crop water use in an average year. This does not include contributions from rainfall since irrigation is most relevant when there is no rainfall. You should of course adjust your irrigation scheduling for rainfall and for weather that is hotter or colder than normal. Use Irrigation Scheduler Mobile for more precise irrigation scheduling related to this year's weather. You will need to know your irrigation system's design capacity (gross). Calculate it here.
